A handmade Japanese demon tiki mug sculpted as Shuten Doji, the drunken demon lord of 14th-century Japanese folklore — one of the most feared yokai in Japan.
This sculptural ceramic vessel reinterprets the oni form as a functional piece of barware. At 32 oz and 7.5" tall, it's the biggest mug in my catalog — designed for tiki cocktails, sake-based drinks, beer, or as a sculptural centerpiece.
Each piece is individually made and glazed in my studio. The surface develops natural variation during firing, creating subtle shifts and depth across the matte black finish.
Details:
– Handmade ceramic Japanese demon tiki mug
– Sculpted Shuten Doji yokai form (artist-made, not mass-produced)
– 32 oz capacity, 7.5" tall — the largest mug in my catalog
– Durable and dishwasher safe
– Food-safe glaze
– Signed by the artist
– Made in my original California studio
Limited Edition:
Only 80 of these Shuten Doji mugs will be made in total. This is the third Japanese demon mug in a planned series of at least six yokai-inspired designs.
About the demon:
Shuten Doji — "the drunken demon" — was a brutal, mean drunk in human life. The legend goes that he put on a demon mask one night as a joke, and it fused to his face permanently. He became a powerful blood-drinking demon lord, one of the most feared yokai in Japanese folklore.
Important:
Glaze variation is intentional — no two mugs will look exactly like the photos.
Perfect for collectors of Japanese mythology, yokai, oni, tiki, horror, and handmade ceramic barware.
Free U.S. shipping included.
I am a ceramic artist and former craft/tiki bartender, working in the tiki mug tradition with a focus on horror, mythology, and folklore. I've since relocated from my original Port Costa, California studio to Frederick, Maryland, where new pieces are now made. This particular mug is from the original California run.
