A handmade Hannya demon tiki mug — sculpted as the iconic female yokai of Japanese folklore, a spirit transformed by jealousy and obsession into something dangerous.
This sculptural ceramic vessel reinterprets the Hannya mask as a functional piece of barware. At 16 oz and 6.25" tall, it's a comfortable everyday size for tiki cocktails, sake, beer, or coffee.
Each piece is individually made and glazed in my studio.
Details:
– Handmade ceramic Hannya tiki mug
– Sculpted yokai form (artist-made, not mass-produced)
– 16 oz capacity, 6.25" tall
– Durable and dishwasher safe
– Food-safe glaze
– Signed by the artist
– Made in my original California studio
Glaze – "Seppuku Black":
A deep, ritual black surface with red glaze breaking through and running across the form like fresh blood or molten lava. Each piece develops its own pattern during firing, with unique flows, pooling, and depth — no two mugs are alike. The name nods to seppuku, the formal Japanese act of ritual suicide, chosen to echo the Hannya's own story of transformation through anguish.
About Hannya:
In Japanese folklore, the Hannya is a female demon born of obsession, jealousy, or grief — a woman whose suffering transformed her into a vengeful spirit. The Hannya mask is one of the most recognized images in Japanese Noh theater and yokai tradition, simultaneously terrifying and sorrowful. The form expresses both rage and pain in the same face.
Important:
Glaze variation is intentional — no two mugs will look exactly like the photos.
Perfect for collectors of Japanese mythology, yokai, oni, tiki, horror, and handmade ceramic barware.
I am a ceramic artist and former craft/tiki bartender, working in the tiki mug tradition with a focus on horror, mythology, and folklore. I've since relocated from my original Port C
